George Hicks has been public works director since July 2010. Prior to his current position, George served the City as assistant public works director/city engineer from 2007. He also served as public works director for the Cities of Suisun City and Healdsburg, and as deputy chief engineer for the Sonoma County Water Agency.

George began his career in public works in Fairfield in 1981 as an engineering intern, and became a full-time, junior engineer after graduating college.
