Smoke Detectors - Recycling
There are two types of smoke detectors sold today Photoelectric and Ionization. Photoelectric can be safely taken to e-waste drop off sites for recycling. Ionization detectors contain a small amount of Americium 241 (AM 241), a radioacive isotope. Inoization detectors must be mailed to either the manufacturer or a recycling service such as Currie Environmental Servies or EZ on the Earth.
