New assistant city manager starts soon

City of Fairfield City Manager, Stefan Chatwin is pleased to welcome David Gassaway as the City’s new assistant city manager, who will also oversee the Community Development Department and the new Housing Services Department.

“I look forward to joining a City with such a storied history that is noted for being a well-run organization, and where I aim to work with Fairfield’s professional staff in having an ongoing positive impact on this growing and changing community” said Gassaway. “As a Sacramento native with a young family, I am also excited for my kids to be closer to our family there.”

Gassaway has held many high level positions throughout his career including assistant to city manager at the Cities of Rancho Cordova and Indian Wells. Most recently, he was the city manager for the City of Solvang. Gassaway belongs to many notable professional governmental organizations such as the California City Management Foundation and the International City/County Management Association.

Chatwin noted, “I am anxious to add David’s talents to the City’s team; he comes to us with years of experience in community development and government administration.” Gassaway earned a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of San Francisco, and has a bachelor’s degree in Political Science.
