Former chief returns in interim role

Fairfield City Manager Stefan Chatwin announced his selection of former Chief Walter Tibbet to serve as interim chief of Police during the national search to fill the vacancy following the retirement of Chief Randy Fenn. Tibbet previously served as Fairfield’s chief from 2010-2015.

Chief Tibbet holds a Bachelor’s degree in Management Studies and a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy. Tibbet has worked in law enforcement for over 40 years in Alameda, San Jose, and Fairfield, attaining the rank of chief with both the Alameda Police and the Fairfield Police Departments. He has worked in various advisory and consulting roles for law firms, the National Police Foundation, and various cities in best practices in policing.

Effective May 25, 2020, Tibbet will assume command of the Fairfield Police Department.
