| | | | | Twenty graduating seniors from the class of 2012 and four from last year's class were honored by PAL for their individual and collective high achievements.
"It's not enough to just show up," said PAL Program Coordinator Heather Sanderson, some of these young people came to PAL with a purpose and others developed their purpose with PAL's influence."
These amazing young people collectively completed thousands of hours of community service in Fairfield, their grades averaged 2.9, they've mastered Advanced Placement classes, some had after school jobs, and others faced the rigorous schedules of student-athletes. No matter the challenges, they decided that "failure isn't an option" for them.
"You have to understand, some of our students at one point during high school were more than 50 credits behind, explained PAL Coordinator Will Bible, but with hard work, the support of excellent adult tutors, and our students' wills to achieve, they have reached graduation on time - all I can say is that I am extremely proud of each of them."
The 2012 PAL Sash recipients are Anthony Balbenua, Benjamin Villasenor, Bianca Mendoza, Danielle Dobos, Dashjay Carlton, Denise Martinez, Diego Sanchez, Dylan Ferzeu, Gabe Deharo, Gabino Olea, Jeffery Perry, Jimmie Newton, Jocelyn Gonzales, Jorge Vaca, Joron McLeod, Jose Salazar, Juan Castro, Katherine Boatright, Rassaan Chenault, Roosevelt "Ted" Pray, Selina Delgado, Stefanie Garcia, Steven Collins, and Edgar Santallian.
PAL Tutor Ms. Glennette expressed that she met some extraordinary young adults at the PAL Homework Center, and challenged them with this quote from Gandi: "Be the change you wish to see in the world."
From this group of graduating seniors, some will change the world by attending college - Stanford, UC Davis, UC Irvine, and Solano Community College - while others have chosen a path of military service to our country.
Whatever these fine young men and women do with their lives going forward, the Fairfield community is very proud that they got their start here, and have become role models and achievers who will change the world.
