| | | | | The newly formed Fairfield Independence Day Parade Committee held its first meeting Wednesday, May 30, and began planning the parade with only a little over one month to pull all the details together.
Founding of the committee comes after a series of budget cuts forced by the elimination of redevelopment agencies erased funds for the annual parade. MV Transportation and NorthBay Healthcare stepped forward with corporate sponsorships this year, and the committee expressed hope that residents and businesses in the community will also help provide enough funds to continue the parade into the future. Donations in any amount may be mailed c/o Sue Moody-Violette, 906 Locust Street, Fairfield, CA 94533. Please make checks payable to Community Services Foundation, with "Independence Day Parade" in the memo line.
The annual Independence Day Parade will be held on Wednesday, July 4 at 10 a.m. Cash awards and ribbons will be presented in 29 categories. Every entry will receive a certificate of participation. The entry fee for this year's parade is $50. Entry forms are available by calling Emily Low at 707.429.0169, or by e-mail request. Parade entry deadline is June 22, 2012.
The Suisun Order of the Eastern Star will sponsor a pancake breakfast at the Fairfield Masonic Lodge at 412 Travis Blvd. The breakfast runs from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. Cost is $7 for adults and $3.50 for children 6-12 years old. The menu includes pancaked, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage links, coffee and juice. More information about the breakfast can be obtained from Eileen Simmons at 707.386.3883.
The parade route has changed slightly this year. It begins at the intersection of Webster and Kentucky Streets, and marches west on Kentucky St to Great Jones Street where it turns south. At Texas Street the parade moves east to Washington Street, where it disbands at Kentucky Street. The Reviewing Area will be placed along Texas Street at Madison Street, near Fairfield Center for Creative Arts. Fairfield's Channel 26 will broadcast the parade for those folks who are unable to make it downtown for the festivities. For more information, call Emily Low at 707.429.0169.
