City Attorney

The City Attorney's Office provides legal services for the City Council, City officials, departments, and commissions in conducting City business. City Attorney staff represent the City before judicial and administrative proceedings, and prosecutes Municipal Code violations occurring in the City. In addition, they streamline the process for City agreements and forms. The City Attorney's office does not provide legal services to residents.  Residents needing legal representation can contact the State Bar of California.?

Greg Stepanicich was appointed city attorney in November 1997. He provides legal advice and representation to the City Council and City departments. He is a shareholder in the law firm of Richards, Watson & Gershon and manages its San Francisco office. 

He has over 35 years of experience specializing in municipal law and also serves as city attorney for Mill Valley, town attorney for Ross, and general counsel for four Joint Powers Authorities. Prior to opening his firm's San Francisco office in 1997, he served as city attorney for Beverly Hills and Agoura Hills.
