Community Development

Building Division

The City of Fairfield is open to the public, with several operational modifications and guidelines in place to continue to combat the spread of the Covid-19.

In the City Hall lobby, visitors will be asked to check in at the Welcome Desk on the first floor. Masks are required and if visitors do not have a mask, one will be provided, as masks must be worn to use elevators. Staff at the desk will call ahead to the visitor’s intended destination to ensure there is adequate waiting room space in the destination floor’s lobby. In waiting areas, floor markers have been placed to designate six feet of physical distancing, and plexiglass shields have been installed at some open counters throughout City offices.

The Building Division reviews all new construction and improvements to existing structures in the city of Fairfield.  Improvements are checked for safety and building code compliance.  All building services are presently being performed including field inspections and over the counter plan reviews and submittals.

Special accommodations have been set up to allow digital plan submittals via email at building@fairfield.ca.gov.  Please include the application that must be physically signed front and back and a digital set of plans that are not secured or password protected.

In addition, basic residential permits (attic insulation, HVAC replacements, electric vehicle charging, electric service upgrades, re-roofs, roof-top solar, water heaters, water line repairs, window replacements) are available via our eTRAKiT system, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  For more information, please visit the Online Permitting Services section for detailed information or proceed directly at
