Application Process

This is an ongoing recruitment (quarterly interviews). Applications will be kept on file for one year from the date submitted.
You may be contacted by the City Clerk’s Office for an interview if you still meet the eligibility requirements and have fully completed the application requirements.
Interviews will be held at City Hall with the City Council on the Appointment Committee. If the Appointment Committee decides to interview you, they may decide to appoint you without an interview.
The Appointment Committee will make a recommendation to the mayor on who to appoint. If the mayor agrees to the appointment, the council will vote on the appointments at a Council Meeting.
Your term will be based on whether you are filling an expired term or an unexpired term (you are filling a vacancy due to a resignation and that person has served part of their term already.)

Who are we?

The Commission was established in 1996 to create opportunities for youth input and involvement in local government. It is made up of 15 Fairfield residents ages 13 to 19 who are appointed by the Mayor and the City Council. In addition, the Commission may also choose to host and sponsor recreation and community events, champion specific causes, and review city policies related to youth. The Fairfield Youth Commission meets on the first Monday of each month in the Fairfield City Council Chamber at 7:00 p.m. All interested parties are invited and encouraged to attend meetings. An agenda is published prior to each meeting and can also be obtained at the Fairfield Community Center.

Powers

Meet with the Mayor, City Council, and community leaders about pressing youth issues
Have a legal vote on the Youth Commission
Serve as a spokesperson and coordinator for students at your school and neighborhood
Bring forth new ideas, suggestions, and ways to improve Fairfield

Responsibilities

Direct and support projects initiated by the Youth Commission
Attend Youth Commission meetings and actively participate in Youth Commission projects
Speak before the Fairfield City Council, and other groups
Review meeting minutes and agendas
