City seeks input regarding fair housing issues

The City is actively seeking public input to determine the extent to which fair housing issues exist in the City. Responses from residents like yourself will be critical in assessing barriers to fair housing and the approaches the City may take to address them. This is an anonymous survey and all responses will be confidential. The City will not look at individual responses but only analyze the results as a whole.

Fair Housing- Equal and free access to housing choices regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, familial status, and disability. Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968 adds the additional protected classes of age and ancestry.  In addition State of California has included the following as protected classes: marital status; medical condition; genetic information; gender, gender identity  and gender expression, sexual orientation, and HIV/AIDS status.

Impediments to Fair Housing Choice- Any actions, omissions or decisions which have the effect of restricting housing choices for the groups defined above, through sale or rental of housing, the financing of housing or the provision of brokerage services.

Housing discrimination- Discrimination in which an individual or family is treated unequally when trying to buy, rent, lease, sell or finance a home based on certain characteristics, such as race, color, religion, sex, national origin, familial status, handicap/disability, age, and ancestry.
