Construction starting April 5 on W. Texas Street near FTC

City of Fairfield Public Works and its contractor are gearing up to start construction on the West Texas Gateway Improvement Project located on West Texas Street between the I-80 eastbound off-ramp and Beck Avenue near the Fairfield Transportation Center. Intermittent traffic delays are anticipated during construction activities which are expected to continue through November 2021.

The project is intended to promote active transportation via the construction of a new sidewalk on the south side of West Texas Street, new bike lanes, and enhanced pedestrian crosswalks. The project also improves access and transit efficiency for a regionally significant transportation hub through the construction of a dedicated bus ramp leading directly into the Fairfield Transportation Center (FTC).

Caltrans has approved the periodic ramp closures at the West Texas Street I-80 off-ramp to assist in constructing the project in a safe and timely manner. Public Works staff does not anticipate ramp closures to occur during peak travel hours of the weekday, to minimize traffic impacts on the public. However, motorists should still expect delays when using this heavily traveled corridor. Traffic control signs and lane closures will be in place to assist drivers around the construction and site.
