The City of Fairfield invites the public to attend a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for our newly remodeled Council Chamber on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at 5:30 p.m. before the 6 p.m. Council meeting. We will gather in the Courtyard just outside the Chamber; Mayor Harry T. Price will emcee the short presentation. Fairfield Poet Laureate Bonnie DiMichele will present a poem for the occasion.
The Council Chamber has been undergoing a major renovation project since March 1, 2020. Improvements included upgrades to exterior ramps and sidewalks for accessibility, as well as improved lighting, cameras, security, electrical and mechanical work. The foremost reason for the remodel was to ensure both the structure and equipment were compliant with the current American Disability Act standards. The slope of the floor was also reduced to safely accommodate wheelchairs.
The installation of the new, larger dais was a result of the City transitioning to district elections, resulting in two additional Councilmembers for a total of six seats. The Mayor’s seat is still elected at-large, as are the City Clerk and Treasurer seats.
